![]() With over 100 years of combined experience in the injection molding business comes the ability to be able to offer flexible tooling solutions to customers in all industries. One prime example is highly engineered injection molds that have the ability to run many different versions of the same part from one mold. This mold runs 39 different versions from the same tool using a highly filled resin. This type of flexibility saves dramatically on the capital expenditure needed for new tooling as well as shortening leadtimes.
![]() On several occasions, Accudyn has worked in conjunction with their customer's design and engineering associates to aid in redesigning and improving existing part designs. One example of a common improvement and cost savings is the conversion of an existing metal part to a plastic part. This metal part consisted of several components that had to be individually formed, machined and then riveted together into the final component, with each process adding additional cost to the finished part. The new plastic part is formed in a multi-cavity tool in a single process resulting in a significant cost savings.
![]() MOLD FLOW ANALYSIS The use of mold flow analysis software provides the opportunity to design and produce a robust injection molded part. This software is regularly used in the design phase of new tooling to aid in gate and vent locations. In addition, Accudyn has utilized this technology to assist customers in improving existing parts. This illustration shows a mold flow analysis that was performed on an existing part by Accudyn's engineering department to help correct an issue that the customer was having with this part. Occasionally, the part would crack due to the stress concentration formed by a knit or weld line. This resulted form the way the part was filling near one of the small slots. A staked insert was required to fix this problem. Through the use of mold flow analysis, Accudyn was able to recommend a slight geometry change in the part that would move this knit line to a different location. The result was a more robust part with no cracking issues.
![]() ![]() While the concept of multi-cavity tools is not a new one, the ability to design and build a truly balanced tool has remained a challenge. To meet this challenge, Accudyn has incorporated MeltFlipper® technology into various multi-cavity tools. This technology has proven to be extremely effective in balancing multi-cavity molds, greatly improving part consistency and quality.
