On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, the Costa Rica Medical Industry Cluster, supported by the Foreign Trade Promotion Agency (PROCOMER), hosted one of the most significant regional events for the sector: the Costa Rica MD Summit 2025. The gathering, held at CIC Ande in San Antonio de Belén, brought together over 600 representatives from manufacturing companies and specialized suppliers.

The summit’s objective, as stated by Jimena Fletes, Director of the Medical Devices Cluster, was clear: “to promote an ideal space for doing business and to foster networking and rapprochement among representatives.” This focus aligns with the sector’s growing relevance, as it remains the country’s main export engine, accounting for 47% of goods exports.

Laura López, General Manager of PROCOMER, highlighted the industry’s impact on the nation’s economic profile. “The medical device industry has transformed Costa Rica’s export profile through strategic investment, highly qualified talent, and a network of local suppliers that has responded to current market demands,” she affirmed, emphasizing that the sector generates over 58,000 direct jobs.

The event featured presentations from companies such as CBRE, Procomer, Opia, and Manpower. It also included a vertical integration case study by ICU Medical, titled “Devices Insource Molding,” and two specialized panels. The first, “Building Competitive Advantage through End-to-End Integration,” was moderated by the cluster’s president, Mr. Luis Javier Serrano, with participation from Hologic, Gauss, Incae, and Procomer. The second panel, “Building the Talent of the Future: Retention, Evolution, and Growth in the Medical Devices Industry,” was moderated by Mr. Steve Ramirez, Managing Director of SMD, and featured Boston Scientific, Phillips, Moog, Korn Ferry, Bayer, and Mr. Andrés Acuña, a board member of the Costa Rica Medical Devices Cluster.
